Interactive Kiosk & 3D Product Drafting
Design and drafting for freestanding iPad stands and interactive kiosks — 3D product work that runs a straight line to the station information module concepts a decade later.
3D products, not just signs
Alongside signage and exhibitions, The Factory did a steady stream of freestanding product design: iPad stands, interactive kiosks, totems and enclosures that had to hold a screen at the right height, survive public use, and open up for servicing. I designed and drafted several of these, working from a brief to dimensioned construction drawings: form options, a human-scale check, cable routes, access panels, ballast and fixing detail.
Why it’s here
This is the physical ancestor of the digital work. Designing a housing for a public-facing screen — where it sits, how a standing person reads it, what happens when someone leans on it — is the same problem as the station information module concepts I later worked on for the Public Transport Authority, just in aluminium and MDF instead of pixels. The kiosk drafting is where the ergonomics and the “public terminal” thinking started.
