CTF Construction Futures Centre
Australia's first interactive industry exhibition centre: 48 exhibits spanning VR, AR, gamification, touchscreens, kinetic sand and arcade-style games.
The Project
Assistant estimator on Australia’s first interactive industry exhibition centre (delivered with OKMG): 48 exhibits spanning VR, AR, gamification, touchscreens, kinetic sand and arcade-style games. The centre demonstrates construction industry careers through hands-on interactive experiences. Visitors physically interact with the built environment to learn about construction trades.
My Role
I estimated the fabrication costs across 48 distinct interactive installations, each with different material requirements, technology integrations, and installation constraints. The variety demanded rapid switching between physical fabrication knowledge (cabinetry, metalwork, signage) and emerging interactive technologies (VR headsets, AR overlays, touch panels, motion sensors).
Why This Matters
Early exposure to interactive spatial experiences (VR headsets, AR overlays, gamified interfaces, and physical-digital touchpoints) informed the systems-thinking approach that later shaped digital twin and accessible design work. This project also demonstrates the physical-digital integration pattern that appears throughout my career: a built environment designed to house and support a digital interactive experience, with each side constraining the other.
Hard Skills
Exhibition estimating, VR/AR exhibit specification, interactive display fabrication, project coordination
Soft Skills
Cross-disciplinary coordination (interactive designers, fabricators, technology suppliers), rapid context-switching across 48 distinct exhibit types, estimation under technical uncertainty
